In June 2014 the DfE asks schools “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

As a school we understand that values are formed together, not instructed.  Through mutual exploration, knowledge building & daily reinforcement we work hard as a school to embed both our Brunton Values and British Values.

We work hard to ensure these values are promoted and embedded in everything we do, from our school values and ethos, to our policies, curriculum planning and daily practice in the classroom.  Staff & children embody our values of respect, kindness, pride & independence.

With community as a driver, we model British Values through the way we treat each other. We place great importance in developing strong links with our community.  These links give our children an understanding and appreciation of different cultures, faiths, beliefs and values. These links also provide opportunities to learn from parents, faith leaders & other important members of the community.

We want all of our children to grow up with the values which will help them to contribute effectively to the wider community during and following their school years.  We do this through our:

 

Curriculum

The 5 strands of the British Values agenda have been mapped across every Puzzle and every Piece within the Jigsaw Curriculum.  This is further enhanced through our use of No Outsiders, Young Citizens British Values resources, the Brunton Reading Spine and through RE coverage.  We also ensure there is time dedicated to teaching our school values.

 

Assemblies

Our planned Assembly Coverage ensures we both explicitly and implicitly teach both Brunton & British Values.

 

Leadership

Leaders regularly audit, monitor and gather pupil voice to ensure high quality SMSC provision. Leaders respond to research – such as CLPE Reflecting Realities Surveys – to update our reading spine to include diverse characters and voices or promoting an Oracy Approach to teach our children how to express themselves confidently & articulately.

 

Extra – Curricular Activities

We provide an incredibly rich and varied range of extra-curricular activities for children and encourage them to express preferences, make individual choices and develop self-knowledge and self – confidence
